The iphone 4S has been selling in the millions. But, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t millions of people who are actually quite disappointed or even irked at what the iPhone 4S has to offer. Not too many people liked the fact that the iPhone 4S kept the same exact design as the iPhone 4, even though the iPhone 4 was released 16 months before the launch of the iPhone 4S. Only the processor and the virtual assistant in Siri, made the iPhone 4S different from the iPhone 4. Though the iPhone 4S has been selling like hot cakes, there are millions of Apple iPhone lovers who are waiting on the iPhone 5, that should hopefully come out in June or October of 2012. In the following passages, we will discuss the possible or probable specs that might be featured in the Apple iPhone 5 and will also briefly touch upon the release date of the next iPhone, due to be launched in 2012.
iPhone 5 specifications (Expected)
iPhone 5 4G
The 4G network has arrived, with a big bang. 4G LTE speeds can result in insane download speeds of up to 30Mbps which makes 3G look like a snail crossing the road. With so many Android phones already offering 4G LTE support, it will be a huge disappointment if Apple does not include 4G compatibility in the iPhone 5. Some rumors seem to suggest that Apple actually tried to include 4G LTE support in the iPhone 4S although they just couldn’t do so because the LTE chips were just too big for a 3.5 inch iPhone. If the iPhone 5 is going to include 4G LTE support, it would also mean that the iPhone 5 will get a larger screen size as only a phone with a large screen will have enough space to accommodate 4G LTE chips. More about the screen size is discussed below.
Will the iPhone 5 screen remain at 3.5 inches or will it be enlarged to a 4 or 4.3 inch screen?
This is a pretty tricky question, for several reasons. To start things off, you must remember that Steve Jobs was very insistent about the iPhone’s screen size being no bigger than 3.5 inches, measured diagonally of course.Steve Jobs was a firm believer that anything more than a 3.5 inch screen for a phone was oversized, ugly and uncalled for. Steve Jobs has publicly made statements to the press that he is concerned about the use of large screens on Apple devices as they will result in a compromise on battery life. According to him, the only solution would be to increase the size of the battery although that will call for design modifications that are just not feasible, considering that Apple makes some of the most stylish products that are available in the market today.
Another pressing problem that might prevent the iPhone 5 from getting a larger screen is that a larger screen might not allow Apple to incorporate it’s high quality retina display resolution on a larger screen. If the screen is going to be bigger than 3.5 inches, it would obviously be difficult to pack in the same amount of pixels per square inch, thereby compromising the quality of the screen. Since retina display is almost impossible on a 4 inch screen on a 4.5 inch screen, Apple might be forced to keep the iPhone 5 screen size at the same 3.5 inches that have been featured in all the previous 5 generation of iPhone’s.
iPhone 5 release date – When might it be?
Apple has always been secretive about release dates for its products. So, we pretty much have to guess at a probable release date. There are thousands of people who are expecting to buy the iPhone 5 in just 6 months time, sometime in June or July of 2012. But, what people fail to understand is that the summer release dates at Apple have traditionally been reserved for the iPad models. With several rumors suggesting that the iPad 3 has entered production stage, it is very likely that the iPhone 5 will not be released in June or July of 2012, along with the release of the iPad 3.
Quite recently, we read some very interesting rumors or assumptions that suggested that the iPhone 5 will be released on the first death anniversary of Steve Jobs, who passed away on October 5, 2011. We definitely think that October 5, 2012 is a real possibility as Apple usually reserves the big product launch for the October month, just in time to allow for enough festive mood shopping.
What are other new or surprising specs that might be featured in the iPhone 5?
While most people are only interested in whether or not the iPhone 5 will have a larger screen and also come with LTE support, there are others who are interested in the processor speed and operating system upgrade as well. Some industry experts believe that the iPhone 5 is going to feature a revolutionary quad core processor and an IOS6 operating system. However, the general consensus is that the iPhone 5 will retain the same A5 processor that is used in the iPhone 4S.
Frankly, we think that a quad core processor is unnecessary for a cell phone as there are not many applications that will require the power of a quad core procesor. So, in all likelihood, the iPhone 5 will get the same A5 processor that has been used in the iPhone 4S. But, we are hopeful that the OS will receive an upgrade as there have been several rumors that have suggested that the IOS6 will support some exciting features such as NFC support, facial unlock technology, panoramic camera mode and so on.
